Herod's Hunger
Handling Herod | Herod's Hunger
📖 Acts 12:20–24
What are you hungry for?
In Week 3 of Handling Herod, we see the tragic end of Herod Agrippa. Instead of giving glory to God, Herod craved the praise and applause of people. When the crowd declared, "The voice of a god, and not of a man!" he gladly accepted their worship—and in that moment, his hunger for recognition became his downfall.
Herod hungered for power.
He hungered for applause.
He hungered for glory that belonged to God alone.
The question this passage asks each of us is simple: What are we feeding? Are we pursuing the approval of people, or the presence of God? Are we satisfied by temporary praise, or do we hunger and thirst for righteousness?
Acts 12 closes with a powerful contrast: while Herod's kingdom came to an end, "the word of God continued to spread and flourish." Human glory fades, but God's Kingdom endures forever.
đź‘‘ Don't let your hunger for recognition keep you from living for the glory of God.
